I moved from Sydney to Lismore in early June 2000, knowing only 2 people in my new area. Leaving friends and family behind and life as I knew it, I was worried I had made a huge mistake. Was moving to a place I had fallen in love with on a holiday years before, such a smart decision?
A few weeks after the big move, I attended my first Lismore Lantern Parade and I knew I had made the right decision and there was no need to hold on to any of my old life in the big smoke...I was home!
The sense of community and joy I felt that night is still with me and still makes my heart glow. The people of this region are a crazy, mixed up melting pot of different ideas, beliefs and values, but first and foremost, we are a community.
The Lantern Parade will always own a piece of my heart for welcoming me with open arms and reassuring me that I was where I needed to be. For this I will be eternally grateful and I haven't missed one since!
